“Casa de Corazon” – This beautiful coastal get away is exactly that: House of Heart. One needs to only love all of life to know how this home in this location beats to a beautiful healthy rhythm.
Casa de Corazon was designed by the Costa Rican renowned architect, Eugenia Mendez. Eugenia was able to take the best part of her own living style heritage, combine the artistry of Old World Spanish beauty and nestle the outcome in one of the most beautiful regions of Costa Rica.
Casa de Corazon rests peacefully in Las Olas de Dominical which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Adding to the pleasure of the cooling breeze and awe inspiring view of the ocean the Costa Rican Rainforest rests only yards from the guest room patio. Sunsets over the Pacific Ocean are never the same twice. One evening the pastel pinks and blues light the sky with a soft hew of peace and tranquility; while, the next evening there is fire in the sky with brilliant reds and oranges bouncing from the water and clouds in a delicious display of spirit. Add the smell of dinner on the barbeque, friends and a glass of wine and you may think you have touched the Jardin de Eden. The mornings on the patio lend themselves to a hardy cup of Costa Rican coffee as one steps from their room to hear the sounds of the Toucans and monkeys. Gallo pinto con huevos, the traditional Costan Rican breakfast feels as if it is calling one to partake..
Casa de Corazon was decorated by Brenda Wright. Brenda an artist and world traveler has brought inspired pieces from throughout South America to warm and invite visitors. The entire second level is the Master bedroom. The hand-made wrought Iron, gauze covered King size bed overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The sound of the ocean lulls one into a deep sleep. The shimmering morning light reflected gently from the ocean let’s you know it is going to be a great day! Two down stairs guest bedrooms open to their own patio. The rooms are connected through a delightfully inviting bathroom that features a Jacuzzi tub. To the right the guest room features a hand-made wrought iron green bed reminiscent of Cinderella’s coach. Sheer delight to bring out the Prince Charming and Princess in all of us. The guest room to the left features hand carved head-boards on the twin beds which definitely brings out a Hemingway feel. Do not resist the urge to pick up a pen and write. Inspiration calls, in Costa Rica, no matter which direction one turns.
However, true to our roots, one can never leave contemporary life too far behind. Direct TV brings those ever important Holiday sporting events straight to the living room. World soccer and Football are only a click of the remote away.
One needs only take a seven minute ride to be at the ocean and ready for some ocean sports. Partial to boogie boarding I can attest to gleeful shrieks while catching my wave. The warm Costa Rican water invites you to stay and stay to catch just one more wave. Of course for the hearty and die hard surfer there are hours of joy to be had as well. But, there is no reason to limit oneself since ocean kayaking, kayak surfing, scuba diving and sports fishing are as normal in this peaceful spot as any everyday task back home.
For the “Greenies” amongst us there is Hacienda Baru. Jack Ewing, one of the originally inspired “Greenies” has spent the past thirty years revitalizing the rainforest after a slash and burn took place for cattle grazing. Jack grew indigenous plant corridors through the pastures. Natural wildlife life is beautifully back. I encourage any visitor to walk the rainforest through the 800 acre masterpiece dedicated to nature and one man’s dedicated vision of keeping nature for those that come after him to visit Costa Rica.
